Q: Why recycle my computers and other electronics? Why not just
throw them away?
A: The main reason why you should recycle instead of just throwing away your electronics: Hazardous materials
inside the electronic components pose a great threat to the environment.
Cadmium, Lead, and Mercury could potentially leach into the ground and possibly into our drinking water. This can
be hazardous to our health and the environment. Therefore a traditional landfill cannot be used.
We live in the electronic era, as technology continues to evolve and products become increasingly affordable, the
demand continues to grow. For this reason literally millions of electronics are being disposed of every year. If
properly recycled, the amount of trash sent to our landfills will be just that much less.

Q: I don't live in the Portland Metro area (Oregon), do you
offer nationwide recycling
A: Security-Tek will accept all electronic and computer related equipment shipped to our warehouse in Portland
Oregon. Currently all of our pick-ups are done by national shipping companies (UPS, FedEx, USPS, Trucking
companies, etc.). We can help to locate a shipping company to deliver your equipment.
All equipment must be pre-packaged and ready for shipping before pickup. Shipping costs needs to be prepaid before
equipment reaches our facility in Hillsboro Oregon. Unlike most of our competitors we do not charge for everything
we receive, only the nonworking items. This can save a company hundreds or even thousands of dollars in disposal
costs alone.

Q: Do you offer a service for removing private or sensitive data
from my computer and what are the cost
A: Customers are responsible for removing their data from hard drives and other storage media before collection.
However Government agencies and financial institutions like banks or lending companies are required to remove
information to Department of Defense standards. Upon request we offer an entirely optional guaranteed "Certified
data removal service" for $15.00 per hard drive, just in case you are concerned about the privacy of your
information.
We know that simply reformatting your hard drives does not render the data irretrievable. All digital media is
physically destroyed or electronically written over using professional sanitizing software, rendering recovery of
your sensitive data impossible. Our data removal/destructions are complaint with the United states department of
defense standards and will ensure that your sensitive data remains confidential. Once completed a certificate will
be issued. We are willing to negotiate mutually beneficial arrangements on large pick ups and provide a Certificate
upon request.

Q: Will formatting or crashing my hard drive destroy my sensitive data
securely? A: Absolutely not! Formatting a drive does not remove data. Even after a format all your
information can be completely recoverable with cheap or even free software. Crashing the partition tables is not a
solutions either. To be secure the drive information needs to be erased and wrote over.

Q: Other recyclers are charging to recycle electronics. Why does Security-Tek accept
some items for free? A: Security-Tek believe that people are more likely to properly recycle their retired
equipment if it is affordable. Not every person or company has a large budget set aside for the recycling of their
used equipment. Granted we are not able to accept every item for free. For example, we charge for monitors and TV's
as they are costly to recycle.

Company or Personal check, Cash, and all Major Credit cards including Visa, Master Card, Discover and
American Express. You can also use Pay-pal.

our facility, seeing that we can not accept payments at our warehouse. However, we do accept check or
cash if we are sending out a truck to pick up your items.

Q: What are the US government regulations on recycling
e-waste?
A: The US government has recognized that there is a problem and is going through the appropriate steps to correct
this issue. Different laws are coming into effect every year about how to recycle electronics. Not every state has
strictly enforced recycling practices. Because this differs from state to state we encourage you to check with your
local EPA office for details.

Q: When will you pick up the items, can I choose a day and
time?
A: Keep in mind that we now service the whole Portland Metropolitan and Vancouver area. This means that
we have to group pickups together to keep prices as low as possible for our customers. For example:
We can not send a driver on a 40 mile trip to pick up a $10 printer.
For this reason it is not possible for us to guarantee a specific time that we will pick up your
items. However, it typically happens within 3 days, but it might take longer. We will be in touch with the
details as soon as you scheduled your pick-up, and your patience in this respect will be greatly
appreciated.
